While recreation here is primarily a participatory sport, there is no lack of spectator sports either. Cheyenne’s schools offer good old-fashioned “cross-town rivalry”. Just 45 miles west in Laramie, Wyoming, collegiate athletics at the University of Wyoming provide plenty of action. The UW Cowboys and Cowgirls play Division I sports in the newly formed Mountain West conference. Want to watch top professional teams like the Rockies, Broncos, Avalanche, or the Nuggets? Just a short drive to Denver via Interstate 25 will get you there in plenty of time to watch the first pitch, kick-off, goal or free-throw.
Most Cheyenne residents are players as well as fans taking advantage of abundant year-round recreational activities. Fishing, hunting, horseback riding, biking, hiking, boating, floating, swimming, camping, golfing and skiing are found within the city and nearby.
The Cheyenne Parks and Recreation Department organizes softball, volleyball, and basketball as well as other activities for adults and youth throughout the year. Local associations offer extensive programs for young people in soccer, baseball, softball and other sports. Cheyenne is home to more than 600 acres of parks, over 15 miles of Greenway, 14 baseball fields, 9 softball fields, 12 tennis courts, 5 golf courses, 2 municipal swimming pools and a swimming beach located at Sloan’s Lake. Just beyond the community’s boundaries are Curt Gowdy State Park and Granite Reservoir, the adventurous sledding and tubing hill at Happy Jack Recreation Area, and the Snowy Range of the Rocky Mountains. A mere 3-4 hour drive will find you in the Summit Country of Colorado known for its world-class ski resorts. International attractions like Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and the world famous Jackson Hole, Wyoming, are a day’s drive or less.

First Time Buyers >A Matter of Timing
Buying real estate can sometimes involve tricky timing. For example, you may have found the perfect house and are thinking about making an offer, but are feeling pressured to make a decision just when you want time to consider the matter. The agent tells you that another party is thinking about making an offer, so you shouldn't hesitate if you really want the house. What should you do? Trust your agent!
It is natural to feel some pressure from even the most easy-going real estate agent--and some uncertainty about making an offer. If you really like a house, there is always the possibility that someone else will share your enthusiasm for it. Whether your local market is active or sluggish, it is sensible to assume that another offer is likely to come in. Perhaps you can afford to "sleep on it", but moving as quickly as possible will minimize the possibility that the house will go to another buyer.
